I was delighted when I was told that I’d be kicking off our new whisky blog series. Well that was until I found out that the subject of our latest argument would be the subject of this post – How to drink whisky.
Argh! has there ever been a whisky subject that causes so much split of opinion? No matter what I say here, I’m sure to have people that disagree. Maybe that is a good thing though, after all it is peoples opinions that make the world an interesting place. Not only that, but this community dividing subject can’t lead to war – at least, I hope not.
I’ll get my preference out of the way now, because I know you are desperate to know – I drink mine with a splash of cold water. Not tap water mind, a famous brand of spring water from Scotland. Even the old tap or spring water debate can get heated. Some say that only natural water from a flowing spring will do. Other say that that spring has to be the same as the original spring used to produce the whisky. However, what my local area lacks in natural springs the supermarket can provide, so, I make do.
Oh, one more thing to add is that when I try a whisky for the first time I try it neat. It is sometimes the case (for me at least) that adding water does nothing for the drink.
